One of the first weddings we ever filmed was actually a destination wedding in San Francisco. At the time, we were just getting started, and honestly, I never imagined a couple would trust us enough to fly us out for something so special. But they did—and it ended up being one of those experiences that reminded us why we love what we do.
A few years later, my friend Chad reached out with something exciting. He told me about a couple he knew who were planning a wedding in Costa Rica and thought we’d be the perfect fit. Chad’s always been one of our biggest supporters—he’s believed in our work from the beginning—so when he vouched for us, his friends agreed to hop on a Zoom call.
From the moment we met Kara and Kevin, there was this effortless connection. They shared their story, their rich adventures traveling the world, and how special of a place Costa Rica was to them as a couple. You could feel their excitement, and it was contagious. We all started picturing what their wedding could look like, surrounded by the people they love in a place that already held so many memories for them. It just felt right—and before we knew it, we were all in.
We stayed offsite during our trip, but we rented a car to explore and really soak in the beauty of the country, the landscape, and the peninsula. It was absolutely breathtaking. Driving through Costa Rica, taking it all in, we already had a sense this wedding was going to be something truly special. And the moment we stepped into the resort for Kara and Kevin’s welcome party, that feeling only deepened.
There was this incredible mix of peace and anticipation in the air. Friends and family were reuniting from all over the world—sharing hugs, laughter, and drinks as a light rain began to fall. It wasn’t disruptive—it actually felt like a quiet blessing over the weekend to come.
The resort itself was stunning. Endless ocean views, monkeys swinging in the distance, and suites flooded with natural light. As Kevin and Kara got ready for the ceremony, they each shared beautiful, quiet moments with their parents—moments of gratitude, honoring everything their families had done to shape the people they had become and the love they had found.
The ceremony was overflowing with emotion. When Kevin saw Kara walking down the aisle, he completely lost it—and honestly, we understood why. She was radiant. You could almost see the reel playing in his mind, from the very first spark between them to this very moment at the altar. We shared that part of their wedding on TikTok, and it ended up being our first viral video—proof of how deeply their love resonated.
The reception was just a short cart ride down to a private beach, and when we arrived, it felt like something out of a dream. The setup was intimate—right on the sand, steps from the water. The night was full of energy—so many hugs, tears, belly laughs, and everyone singing at the top of their lungs.
And then, like a scene straight out of a movie, a surprise rainstorm swept in. It could’ve ended the night. But instead, Kevin and Kara leaned into it—grabbed each other’s hands, and kept dancing. Everyone joined in. Soaked and smiling, it somehow made the night even more unforgettable. It was one of those moments that reminds you what a wedding is really about.
Not long after, LoveStories TV reached out and asked if they could feature Kara and Kevin’s wedding film on their show Wedding Talk, streaming on Chicken Soup for the Soul. They included it in the episode titled “Happy Mishaps,” highlighting how unexpected moments often become the most meaningful. You can stream it here.
Kara & Kevin, we love you.
